Fayetteville man charged 3 months after deadly Smokey Bones shooting: Police

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Fayetteville Police Department charged a man in connection with a deadly shooting outside Smokey Bones in February.

Jeremiah Buffington, 18, is charged with first-degree murder in this incident, police said.

On Feb. 26, around 4:58 p.m., police said they responded to a report of a shooting on the 1800 block of Skibo Road, the location of Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill. Once on the scene, they found a man, later identified as 18-year-old Sencedrick Barham, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Barham was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died.

According to investigators, Buffington also faces additional charges related to a separate shooting that occurred near Banner Elk on May 17. These charges include:

  • Attempted murder
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Assault inflicting serious injury
  • Possession of a stolen firearm

These additional charges were filed in reference to a shooting, where he shot two victims. One was a juvenile with non-life-threatening injuries, and the other was an adult victim with life-threatening injuries, who is now in stable condition, according to police.

Buffington is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond.
