The former manager of medical clinics in Lafayette and Baton Rouge has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $500,000 from her employer.
Brooke Miller (Tauzin) Duck, 31, a resident of Midland, Texas, and former resident of Arnaudville, faces up to 20 years in federal prison for wire fraud and up to a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lafayette and court records.
Duck was employed by two medical clinics with offices in Lafayette and Baton Rouge and had access to the clinics’ credit cards and bank accounts, the news release states.
Between May 2020 and October 2023, Duck used the clinics’ credit cards for purchases and personal expenses. Those purchases included a $15,000 payment for a time-share vacation property.
After making the purchases using the clinics’ credit cards, Duck allegedly used money drawn from the businesses’ bank accounts to pay off the credit cards associated with her purchases.
Duck allegedly made $539,451 in unauthorized transactions using the clinics’ credit cards over the course of more than three years in which she ran the scheme. That included $499,490 charged to one company credit card and $39,961 charged to the other company credit card, court documents show.
