Even hotter weather moves in Thursday

Hotter temperatures continue to move into New Mexico. Albuquerque will likely hit 90° for the first time this year on Thursday, with triple-digit heat in southeast New Mexico by Friday.

It was a much warmer afternoon Wednesday across New Mexico with high temperatures climbing around 10° higher than Tuesday. Most of the state climbed into the 80s and 90s today. Winds were light today too with sunny skies across the whole state. Even hotter weather is on the way Thursday afternoon. Albuquerque will likely see its first 90° day of the year Thursday, just a few days earlier than average. High temperatures will climb into the mid 80s across northern New Mexico with highs in the mid and upper 90s in southern parts of the state.

Breezier winds return Friday afternoon with southwesterly winds gusting around 24 to 40 mph. That wind will help to bring in even hotter temperatures Friday, with the state’s first 100° high temperatures likely in southeast New Mexico. High temperatures will be a couple degrees cooler on Saturday with an increase in cloud cover.

Moisture will begin moving into eastern New Mexico Sunday. This will bring a chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the northern mountains and northeast New Mexico. That moisture may surge west across the state Sunday night, bringing much higher moisture into the western half of the state. If this happen, this will bring a good chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms Memorial Day afternoon to central and eastern New Mexico. If it doesn’t happen, afternoon storm chances will still be possible in eastern New Mexico. Rain and thunderstorm chances continue into the middle of next week with the warm weather sticking around.
