DUNBAR, W.Va. (WOWK) — The City of Dunbar has decided on the next steps regarding Dunbar Fire Station 2.
On Monday, during a city council meeting, the council voted to demolish the building after testing for asbestos, while also clearing out the area around the building. The goal is to have bids put out so that a new station can potentially built.
Dunbar Fire Chief Jason Burger said he is glad progress is being made towards resolving the issue.
“I’m glad to be moving forward,” Burger said. “I’m glad to hopefully get out of that building because it has been a problem. I’ve been here 20 years. It’s been a problem since the day I came. So, I’m really glad that we’re making the progress we’re making now.”
A decision has not been made on whether they will build a new station or move into another building.
