ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI — The driver of a vehicle is being charged with murder for the death of an 8-month-old baby killed when his car struck her and her family, police said.

On Thursday, May 22, Terry Lee Boss, 56, was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death. It’s in response to the crash on Baseline Road in Trowbridge Township on April 26, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim, 8-month-old Lucia Iris Seifried, was killed. She was playing in the yard near the lake with her family when they were struck by Boss’ vehicle, police said.

The baby’s name was released with permission from her parents, the sheriff’s office said.

Matthew Seifried, the girl’s father, posted about the tragedy on Facebook.

“On Saturday, my family and I were sitting in our yard watching the sun set when a drunk driver lost control of his truck and hit us,” Seifried said.

“One minute our baby girl was playing in the grass, the next minute she was holding Jesus’ hand.”

Lucia was full of joy, love and peace, he said.

They are “incredibly upset,” but also grateful to the Lord for blessing them with Lucia’s beautiful soul for a short time, he said.

He thanked everyone for their love, support and prayers. They held a funeral in early May.

Lucia’s obituary describes the life taken in the tragic crash.

“Whether playing in the grass, giggling during peek-a-boo games, or dancing with her lively ‘bossy girl’ moves, Lucia’s spirit was one of pure joy,” the obituary states. “She adored being called a princess, relished her baths and brought smiles with her big smooches and spirited goodbyes, waving with delight to anyone who would notice.

“At church, her voice soared above the rest, a sweet melody of innocence that will forever echo in the hearts of those who listened.”
