Driver arrested after hit-and-run vehicle collision in Douglas

A man is in Juneau Police custody following a hit-and-run in Douglas.
On Sept. 4 at approximately 4:13 a.m., the Juneau Police Department (JPD) received a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision in the 300 block of I Street. The caller reported that a blue minivan had struck an unoccupied 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe parked in front of a residence before fleeing the area.
The Tahoe sustained severe damage to the rear driver-side bumper and was not operational, according to JPD. No injuries were reported.
“Responding officers followed a trail of vehicle fluid from the collision scene to the 2200 block of Crow Hill Drive, where they located a light-blue Honda Odyssey with severe front passenger-side damage,” JPD Deputy Chief Krag Campbell stated.
The Honda was registered to 21-year-old Lance Victor Martell who was located nearby in the Douglas area. He fled on foot and entered a wooded area before ultimately being located and taken into JPD custody a short time later.
Martell was then transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and lodged on multiple charges and outstanding warrants, including:
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI) — a Class A misdemeanor
- Action of an Operator Immediately After an Accident — a Class A misdemeanor
- Avoidance of an Ignition Interlock Device — a Class A misdemeanor
- Driving While License Revoked for DUI — a Class A misdemeanor
- An outstanding $7,500 warrant — related to felony DUI and felony Assault in the 3rd degree
