Dolphins activate Jason Marshall off IR for Ravens game

MIAMI GARDENS — With a flurry of injuries in the secondary this season, the Miami Dolphins are getting some relief ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Dolphins announced Thursday afternoon that rookie cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. has been activated off injured reserve, ahead of the 8:15 p.m. kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has previously said that Marshall would immediately return to his role as the team’s nickel cornerback upon his return.

Marshall first suffered his hamstring injury in the Sept. 18 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Placed on IR, he then had to miss the following four games. The Miami Palmetto High and Florida Gators product was designated for return and returned to practice last week in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, but the Dolphins decided to wait a few more days to bring him back for the Thursday night game at home.

Miami has suffered a plethora of injuries to defensive backs this season. On Sunday in Atlanta, cornerback Storm Duck, who had just returned from an ankle injury, suffered a season-ending knee ailment. Duck was placed on IR Tuesday, and Marshall now takes his spot on the active roster.

Marshall was only the starting nickel corner because the Dolphins lost Kader Kohou for the year during training camp.

The Dolphins also have safety Ashtyn Davis doubtful to play against Baltimore due to a quadriceps injury, and fellow safety Ifeatu Melifonwu is questionable with an ailing thumb.

Miami also elevated cornerback Isaiah Johnson and tight end Hayden Rucci from the practice squad to the game-day roster Thursday.

Rucci should help with the team short on tight ends, as Julian Hill was ruled out Wednesday with his shoulder injury and Darren Waller is on IR.

In the community

For the third year, the Dolphins held their Jason Jenkins Days of Service throughout the month of October. It honored the life and legacy of Jenkins, the organization’s late senior vice president of communications and community affairs who died in 2022.

More than 1,000 volunteers dedicated approximately 3,500 hours across more than 30 community projects, positively impacting more than 72,000 South Florida residents.

Volunteers served meals to more than 1,500 community members, inspected, sorted and packaged more than 45,000 pounds of food, assembled more than 600 hygiene kits and care packages, supported education initiatives for nearly 1,000 children and teens and facilitated athletic and holiday events at local community centers and schools.

The monthlong initiative culminates with the Dolphins’ Thursday night game against the Ravens at Hard Rock Stadium, on what would’ve been Jenkins’ 51st birthday.

“I’m honored to see how Jason’s legacy continues to live on through this month of service,” said Elizabeth Jenkins, Jason Jenkins’ widow and executive board chair of Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the team’s offseason fundraising event for cancer research. “Each interaction this month has revealed the lasting impact of my husband’s work, showing how his spirit continues to live on through the seeds he planted in the community he loved so deeply.”
