MILTON, Del. — Revenge, obsession, and a whole lot of blood — Sweeney Todd is taking the stage at Milton Theatre this fall.
The dark musical follows a barber whose thirst for revenge sends him down a deadly path, with a little help from an unlikely business partner.

“Basically, the whole premise is me seeking revenge against the man and men who harmed me and took my life away,” Actor James Verderamo said.

“It’s thrilling, it’s exciting, it’s dark, [and] it’s hilarious. It really hits all of the bases and something that you’d want to see, particularly at the fall season. It just fits right into the theme,” Actress Caitie Moss said.

For the cast members, part of the fun is stepping into a story that is unlike anything they’ve performed before. From the music and dark humor, to the powerful musical arrangements.

“It’s a privilege to be able to step into the character,” Verderamo said.

“I really love all the ballads of Sweeney Todd. They’re very powerful. The singing just comes at you like a wall,” Choreographer Jessica Bostick said.

Moss says it’s a thrill playing a female lead with such variety and nuance. “Usually, your female leads are just some dreamy ingénue who is in love with the leading man, and that’s not the case in this situation. Though she is, but she’s cunning, she’s witty, she’s hilarious, she’s devious, she’s manipulative — you get to play all of these realms.”

With an unforgettable 9-piece orchestra accompanying these powerhouse vocals — it’s truly something you can’t miss.

“It’s so well-known and beloved, everyone calls it Steven Sondheim’s masterpiece. . . Sweeney Todd — It hits all the right elements of emotion,” Verderamo said.
