Did we skip spring? New Mexico hits 90s in March

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Parts of New Mexico are experiencing record-breaking temperatures, reaching the 90s in March.

Sandia and Cleveland baseball players and their fans braved the heat earlier on Friday as games continued outdoors.

City officials have no plans to open city pools like the Rio Grande Pool or the Civic Plaza Splash Pad early this year. The goal is to open them by Memorial Day weekend.

Car heat dangers

With high temperatures, it’s crucial to check backseats as car interiors can become dangerously hot for kids and pets.

“It’s going to be sunny skies. It’s going to be clear, so the sunlight is going to be able to penetrate into those cars. Is going to warm up extremely quickly. We’re talking temperatures over 130 degrees in just a matter of minutes,” said Matt DeMaria, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A good practice is to keep your purse or bag in the back seat to remind you to check before locking your car.
