DOVER, Del. — Delaware voters head to the polls Sept. 15 for a primary that will decide the Democratic and Republican nominees for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, attorney general and state treasurer, along with dozens of state Senate and House seats across all three counties. Most legislative seats up this cycle aren’t actually contested, incumbents in both parties are running unopposed in a majority of districts. But where there is a race, it’s often a real one: Sen. Chris Coons faces three Democratic challengers, eight legislative seats are open due to retirements, and one House district, District 8, has a contested primary on both sides at once. Six Republican candidates across these races are also still listed as “provisional” with the state still awaiting SBI criminal background check and residency review. Locally, New Castle County is losing two of its longest-serving council members this cycle. Councilman Penrose Hollins, who represents District 4, is retiring after decades in office and has endorsed Curtis Linton to succeed him. Read his full profile and endorsement here. New Castle County residents: County Council and Recorder of Deeds are covered below. Kent and Sussex County residents don’t vote on these two offices, but you do have your own county-level races on the Nov. 3 ballot: Kent County has a Levy Court seat and Recorder of Deeds; Sussex County has two County Council seats and Recorder of Deeds. None required a primary, so they’re not listed here, but you can look up your full ballot here.
