Dartmouth student arrested for DUI after crash

HANOVER — Police arrested a Dartmouth student last weekend after they say she drove a vehicle into the front entrance of a sorority house on East Wheelock Street.

The 22-year-old woman is facing a charge of DUI in connection with the incident, Hanover Police Chief James Martin stated in an email on Thursday.

Officers responded to Dartmouth’s Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house, 24 East Wheelock Street in Hanover, at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, for “a reported motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and a building,” Martin wrote.

Upon arrival, police discovered that a 2017 Jeep Wrangler had collided with the “front entrance area” of the building, Martin said. Nobody was injured in the collision, he added.

“Subsequently … (the student) was arrested for DUI,” Martin stated.

Jana Barnello, a Dartmouth spokeswoman, declined to comment on the incident.

Efforts to reach Kappa Kappa Gamma this week were unsuccessful.

“The matter is still under investigation and more specific details are not available at this time,” Martin said.

The student, whose LinkedIn profile indicates she is studying neuroscience at the college, was released on personal recognizance with a court date scheduled for Aug. 31 at 8:30 a.m. in the Lebanon District Division.
