CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Some cyclists made a very special visit on Friday before the night’s big Criterium races at the Cycling USA Pro Road Nationals.
Cyclists with Project Echelon took a break from Practice Friday afternoon to stop by CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital and meet with some of the patients in the pediatric unit, pediatric ICU and CAMC Children’s Cancer Center. They also passed out hats and sunglasses to the kids.
Project Echelon President Eric Hill says being able to visit the hospital and get a sense of the community is important to their organization.
“The opportunity to come to this hospital, to visit women in children in need in the community, and celebrating them is really important to us,” Hill said. “We are privileged to come to Charleston, West Virginia. You guys open your streets, your community, your businesses. The least we can do is give back.”
Project Echelon is not just a professional cycling team, they are also a veteran nonprofit that works to help empower communities through physical activity and self-discovery.
Hill also told WOWK 13 News Thursday that it’s important for the nonprofit to come to these communities and become a part of them because they know they’re going to be coming back year after year.
