The man is among a handful of people to die this summer while exploring Juneau’s outdoors
A Texas man died Tuesday after falling from the Mount Roberts trail and sliding down the mountainside.
According to a dispatch Wednesday from Alaska State Troopers, they were called just after 8 p.m. and told of an ongoing search and rescue effort for two men who had fallen from the trail. The pair were visitors to Juneau traveling on a cruise ship, and one was recovered by Juneau Mountain Rescue with “minor injuries.”
Britain Pool, 36, was found by drones operated by the rescue organization, troopers, Juneau Police Department and the State Department of Transportation, the dispatch says, already dead of injuries from the fall. His body was recovered.
Pool is among a handful of people to die this summer while exploring Juneau’s outdoors. In July, a Kentucky woman was found dead on Mount Roberts. In separate incidents this month, an Arizona man was killed on a hike near Mendenhall Glacier and an Italian researcher died after falling into a hole while conducting research on the glacier. In June, a local hiker died after a fall from Salmon Creek Dam.
