Congress urged to act on clean energy permitting reform: Letter to the Editor

Congress must get to work to ensure that American energy is affordable and reliable. That will require permitting reform legislation to unleash the clean-energy projects waiting to be built and connected to the grid. Without permitting reform, clean energy available from wind, solar, and battery projects will be delayed.

Currently, it takes years for federal agencies to complete environmental impact statements for major energy projects. We must speed up these assessments so we can more quickly build clean-energy projects. Solar and wind energy project development is expected to grow exponentially. But building them is only part of the challenge – they also need to be connected to the grid to move power to homes and businesses.
