Community Transit to retire final Seattle-bound route

EVERETT — Community Transit will eliminate and replace a route connecting Snohomish to downtown Seattle, in a move that will allow the agency to offer more frequent service for commuters in east Snohomish County.

Route 424, a commuter route which offers four trips per day through Snohomish, Monroe and Bothell into downtown Seattle, will end on June 13, the Snohomish County transit agency wrote on its website.

It will be replaced by a new route, 908, that will travel between Snohomish and Bellevue, ending near the downtown Bellevue light rail station that connects to Seattle.

Because the buses are traveling a shorter distance, it will allow the agency to offer 10 trips per day along the route rather than four, more than doubling the amount of service for Seattle-bound commuters living east of Everett.

The route shakeup was not a surprise. In 2024, Community Transit shifted much of its service away from trips to Seattle, instead focusing on connections to Sound Transit’s Link light rail network, allowing the agency to offer more frequent bus service in local areas. Route 908 was included as part of that planning, but the agency waited to open it until the 2 Line light rail system could cross Lake Washington.

Sound Transit still offers some express bus service directly from Snohomish County into downtown Seattle and Bellevue, largely during commute hours.

As part of the June 13 service change, Sound Transit’s Route 513, an express bus connecting Lynnwood to the Seaway Transit Center in Everett, will no longer stop at the Eastmont Park and Ride. The park and ride, located in southeast Everett and operated by Sound Transit, is closing due to low utilization.

The slightly larger South Everett Park and Ride, which connects to more transit routes, is located about a mile away.
