ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A man has been arrested and charged after a bank robbery led to a police chase and ended with the suspect crashing into a police vehicle.
Around 4:28 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department said officers responded to a reported bank robbery at a Wells Fargo at 2910 Sunset Avenue. Information received indicated a man was inside the bank, armed and demanding money.
When officers arrived at the location, they saw the suspect running from the scene. A foot chase began, during which the suspect got on a motorcycle he had hidden and sped away from the scene.
Investigators said more officers entered the area and saw the suspect driving on Sunset Avenue, where a police chase then ensued. The chase ended a short time later after the suspect crashed into a police vehicle near the dead end of Ridgecrest Drive.
During the investigation, a truck and trailer belonging to the suspect were located off a dirt path near Old Carriage Road, where multiple weapons were found, police said.
The suspect, 35-year-old Seth Richardson, was taken into custody. Police said he sustained non-life-threatening injuries due to the crash and is currently at UNC Nash Hospital under a 24-hour law enforcement guard. An officer involved in the collision was treated for minor injuries and has since been released from medical care.
According to investigators, Richardson is wanted in connection with three armed robberies in Clayton and Raleigh.
He is being charged with:
- 3 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon
- attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon
- felony flee to elude
