One of two people killed Friday night in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 11 at the edge of northwest Las Vegas has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Christopher Cruz Arriaga, 19.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the crash unfolded at 11:28 p.m. at mile marker 99, causing the closure of northbound I-11 lanes at Kyle Canyon Road at the time. I-11 is also known as U.S. Highway 95.

The Highway Patrol said the crash involved an SUV and a sedan. The driver of the SUV was “traveling southbound in the northbound travel lanes” before striking the sedan, Highway Patrol spokesperson trooper Shawn Haggstrom said in an emailed press release.

Both drivers died at the scene. A passenger in the sedan was also critically injured.

Arriaga’s death was deemed an accident caused by blunt force injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

Authorities said on Saturday the driver of the SUV had not been identified at the time because of a vehicle fire.

The coroner’s office said Monday the identity of the second person killed in the crash was still pending.
