ATLANTA – Atlanta police are investigating after a 23-year-old man was shot Thursday afternoon and a child was briefly taken from the scene in a fleeing vehicle before being found safe.
What we know:
Officers were first dispatched around 3:35 p.m. to 925 Conley Road Southeast after reports of a person being shot.
When they arrived, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was alert, conscious, and breathing and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Investigators say the suspect left the scene in a vehicle with a child already inside at the time of the shooting.
Officers later located that the vehicle was found near the 3100 block of Donnebrook Lane SE and safely recovered the child.
Police said the child did not appear to be injured and medical personnel were on scene to evaluate.
The suspect has not been found.

Police said a suspect fled the complex in a vehicle with a child inside. “At this time, we cannot confirm the vehicle was stolen; however, the suspect did flee the scene with a child located in the vehicle. The child has since been located, unharmed,” the department said. That incident also remains under investigation.
What we don’t know:
Authorities have not said what led to the shooting or whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
It is unclear why the child was in the vehicle or how long the child was missing before being recovered.
Police have not released a description of the suspect or vehicle, and they have not said whether any surveillance video has been recovered from the area.
