Player of the Year: Abigail Heidbrink, Brusly, So.
The trust Brusly softball coach Beau Bouvier has in his pitcher Abigail Heidbrink was evident during a game against Parkview Baptist on March 31.
In the seventh inning, the Eagles hit a home run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Bouvier came out to the circle to talk to Heidbrink. They differed on what pitch to go with next, but Bouvier trusted his sophomore star.
She then executed her pitches to seal the victory.
“Whenever I went out there to talk to her, I wanted to do something else, and she wanted to go with this pitch,” Bouvier said. “I trusted her, and we went with it, and it worked out.”
Heidbrink stacked up stellar performances throughout the year to help Brusly reach the Division II nonselect state title game. The sophomore finished the season with a 25-7 record and a 1.55 ERA across 171⅔ innings. She struck out 219 batters and walked 40.
For her performances in the circle, Heidbrink was named The Advocate’s All-Metro player of the year for Classes 4A and 5A.
Coach of the year: Beau Bouvier, Brusly
Beau Bouvier has experienced state title games before. The players on his 2026 team hadn’t. His goal this past season was for them to get over the semifinal hump and feel the joy of a reaching a state title game.
His Panthers did just that. Brusly defeated Lutcher in the semifinal round to reach the Division II nonselect state title game.
Bouvier guided Brusly to a 24-7 record was a run away from a championship after a 1-0 loss to North DeSoto. He helped to develop talented players like pitcher Abigail Heidbrink. For his efforts coaching, Bouvier was named The Advocate’s All-Metro coach of the year for Classes 4A and 5A.

Player of the Year: Malloy Miles, French Settlement, Jr.
Malloy Miles had a junior season to remember. She opened the season with four straight no-hitters, including a five-inning perfect game.
Miles baffled hitters all season long and surpassed 800 career strikeouts in leading the Lions to the Division III nonselect semifinals. The Ole Miss commitment shined on the biggest stage as an eighth grader and continues to improve as she enters her senior year.
This past season, Miles finished with a 20-2 record and a 0.61 ERA in 127 innings. She totaled 269 strikeouts and walked 37. At the plate, Miles batted .420 with a .540 on-base percentage. She had two home runs, nine doubles and 15 RBIs.
Miles relishes the opportunity to pitch every time she steps into the circle.
“Being a leader on the field is the main thing that made me want to be a pitcher,” Miles said.
No matter who was at the plate, Miles was effective as her talent and attitude has turned her into one of the top players in the state.
For her outstanding season, Miles was named The Advocate’s All-Metro Class 3A and below MVP.
Coach of the year: Ashlee Ducote, Parkview Baptist
Parkview Baptist’s team this season was filled with youth, but there was no shortage of top talent. Coach Ashlee Ducote developed her young team into one of the area’s best.
The Eagles went 30-7 and reached the Division III select state title game with a team featuring five freshmen, two eighth graders and one seventh grader.
For leading the Eagles to an exceptional season, Ducote was named The Advocate’s All-Metro Class 3A and below coach of the year.
