CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – More than 100 new bikes were given out to kids in Charleston Saturday, just in time for summer.
The Charleston Sternwheel Regatta provided the bikes and helmets with support from the Rotary Club and other local organizations. Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin says this is a great way to introduce kids to cycling, especially with the Cycling USA Pro Road National Championships in town.
“Just such an incredible opportunity that we have here with USA Cycling, the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Board of Directors. We’re giving away today with the Rotary 100 bikes. Actually, a little over 100 bikes,” Goodwin said. “So, we’re so happy to see the kids out there riding along with, really, our nation’s best cyclists. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
This is the third year the organizations have come together to help grow an initiative on health, community and movement.
