LOS ANGELES, Ca. – A local woman and her son have made headlines in the professional wrestling world.
Mike Mondo, one of Bryan Idol’s rivals, attacked Idol’s mother. Since the incident, he has been fighting for his mother’s honor.
Antoinette Nazar, was invited to a National Wrestling Alliance event to watch her son. Everything was normal until Mondo confronted her, and then pushed her into the crowd.
Nazar explains the attack from her perspective. “So I was scolding him and saying stop cheating, my son won, and he said that’s your son, and he just went and woosh, I fell backwards.”
Idol would retaliate, offering to take down Mondo and his team. “Mondo, you put my hands on my mother, not only am I going to step in there with you, I want to hurt the ones that are near and dear to you.”
To settle the feud – Idol Challeneged Mike Mondo and his partner Slade to a triple threat ladder match, with the National Heavyweight Championship on the line. Idol invited his mother again to attend, and this time, she would even the score.
“We had a rematch in Philadelphia, and I yelled at him again because he got in my face again, and I went boom and smacked him across the face.”
Idol would retain his championship belt in the ladder match, but the rivalry is far from over. He tells WMDT, being able to defend the gold around the world is a dream come true.
“One of my personal favorites had this championship, Rowdy Roddy Piper, so it’s really cool to have the National Heavyweight Champion share a legacy with a name like that.”
Founded in 1948, the National Wrestling Alliance has seen many wrestling greats come through its ranks. On May 1st, 2017, the company was purchased by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins to maintain its legacy.
Since that time, the company has expanded, and its flagship show, Powerrr is broadcast weekly.
