SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. — Music filled the air, vendors lined the streets and families gathered for a day of fun during the sixth annual Celebrate Surfside Beach festival Sept. 12.
The free community festival brought residents and visitors together along 3rd Avenue South to Surfside Drive for a celebration of everything Surfside Beach has to offer.
About 80 vendors took part in the event, giving attendees plenty of opportunities to shop, discover new businesses and find something special to take home.
Susan Abolt returned to the festival after attending last year and said she already knew she wanted to come back.
Vendors showcased a variety of products during the Celebrate Surfside Beach festival, which featured about 80 vendors.
“I really enjoyed myself this year. I came last year and knew I would be back,” Abolt said.
“I heard there were about 80 vendors. I bought quite a few things for myself and a few things for my puppy, Sam.”
The festival featured food, drinks and entertainment for all ages, with live music from Urban Jukebox providing a lively soundtrack for the celebration. The band performed a mix of neo-soul, funk, reggae and other musical styles that had attendees enjoying the music and showing off their dance moves.
Myrtle Beach magician and family entertainer Greg Holt also returned to the festival, entertaining guests with his wandering street magic.
Another popular attraction was the Celebrate Surfside Beach Dunk Tank. Attendees could purchase three balls for $3 or six balls for $5 and take their best shot at getting someone wet. Proceeds went toward local charities.
For some attendees, the festival was also a chance to connect with their new community.
Stephanie Shultz and her husband recently moved to Surfside Beach and were excited to experience one of the town’s community events.
“I am so happy to be here,” Shultz said. “My husband and I just moved here to Surfside Beach, and we moved here because locals said that this was the family beach. We are so glad we moved here. We can walk to just about anyplace. We are also thinking about purchasing a golf cart.”
