Cedric and Garry Burnside at White Water Tavern on Friday

CEDRIC AND GARRY BURNSIDE
FRIDAY 8/7. White Water Tavern. 8:30 p.m. $25.

Cedric and Garry Burnside each have formidable careers deserving of individual attention, but it’s hard to talk about one of them without the other. The two bluesmen grew up in poverty together in Mississippi — Garry is Cedric’s uncle, and they’re only two years apart — where their musical potential was nurtured by Garry’s father, R.L. Burnside, who was a “master of raw Mississippi blues,” according to his obituary in The New York Times. From the time they were young teenagers stepping in to fill vacancies in R.L.’s band, Cedric and Garry’s creative lives have remained intertwined, most significantly with 2006’s “The Record,” a duo album released under the name Burnside Exploration, and 2015’s Cedric Burnside Project album “Descendents of Hill Country,” which scored them a Grammy nomination for Best Blues Album.
