CASPER, Wyo. — A Casper man with two burglary conspiracy convictions and an eight- to 10-year suspended sentence has been charged with a new felony for allegedly using fake money to buy a woman’s iPhone.
Jordan Lee Schmidt, 31, is charged with possession of forged documents, misdemeanor theft and conspiracy to commit theft. He is presumed innocent unless proven or pleading guilty.
On April 19, a woman called to report that she’d gotten fake cash from Schmidt, who showed up at Moonlight Liquors to buy the iPhone 15 she’d put up for sale on Facebook. The transaction was reportedly arranged through Gavin Pfrimmer, who’d said his friend was coming to buy the phone.
Police reviewed security footage from the Moonlight and said Schmidt is seen conducting the transaction before getting into a green Xterra that drove off. The woman said Schmidt left quickly before she noticed the word “copy” printed on the bills.
Pfrimmer has not been charged with conspiracy, but in a separate affidavit concerning a traffic stop and a failure-to-appear warrant, police said they found a large amount of fake cash in his vehicle.
Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety for Schmidt on Monday.
