CASPER, Wyo. — The City of Casper announced Wednesday that it is close to reaching a lease agreement with the Casper Warbirds hockey team for continued use of the Casper Ice Arena. This comes after the city previously blocked the team from using the arena for allegedly defaulting on payments before walking that decision back the following day.
“We are encouraged by the enthusiasm surrounding the Warbirds’ future in Casper, the potential new partnership and what it could mean for the community,” interim Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director Nick Whipps said. “However, it’s important we move cautiously and follow a thorough and thoughtful process to ensure any agreement is responsible, transparent, and built to benefit Casper.”
According to Whipps, city staff are currently confirming ownership details, verifying financial capacity, reviewing supporting materials related to the team’s operational structure and more. Once that work is complete, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will meet with the new owners before making a lease recommendation to the council.
In the meantime, the Warbirds will remain able to play their games, Whipps said.
“We are committed to open communication and transparency throughout this process. As discussions continue, the City will provide updates to ensure the community has a clear understanding of where things stand and what comes next,” he added.
