Cardinals Split in Final Action of Calendar Year

CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- As the calendar year ends, the Carrington basketball programs cannot help but feel there is momentum building into 2026.

The Cardinal girls got back over .500 with a wire-to-wire 54-42 win over Dickinson Trinity while the Cardinal boys found more offensive success in a 76-67 loss to Watford City.

BOYS: Watford City 76 Carrington 67

Seven threes and 28 points from Carter Breitbach lifted the Wolves (3-3) to a win over a game Cardinal squad.  Xavier McGorman added 24 as Watford City led by as many as fourteen and only trailed once (1-0).  Maddox McIlonie scored 28 for a second straight game, Taylen Mehring added 19 and Alec Threadgold scored 12 for the Cardinals (1-4).

Career-high efforts from Sienna Topp (13 points) and Mya Neis (8 points) ensured that the Cardinals (4-3) never trailed in their second consecutive win.  Carrington opened the game with three consecutive three-pointers for a 9-2 lead and they never looked back.  Anabelle Scheeler led the Titans (4-3) with 16 points.
