A car crashed into a home Saturday morning in Scott, leaving one person inside with life-threatening injuries, according to the Scott Fire Department.
Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said the crash occurred just before 11 a.m. on Notre Dame Drive near Westgate Road. Investigators believe the driver suffered a medical emergency, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike the home.
A person inside the residence, who was in bed at the time, was pinned beneath the vehicle and seriously injured, Sonnier said. The driver was also trapped but was freed and taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Lafayette Squad, which specializes in technical rescues, was called to assist because of the complexity of the scene. Crews used airbags to lift the vehicle and a winch to move it, allowing rescuers to extricate the victim.
Utilities to the home were disconnected because of damage from the crash, Sonnier said.
