JAMESTOWN – A long fight back paid off Sunday for Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Soccer.

Vega Canada scored the game-winner with just over four minutes to play as the Jimmies came back for a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.

A win of a 50-50 ball by Saige Gustafson at the right sideline about 40 yards from net started the winning play for UJ (2-4-1, 2-2-0).  Gustafson centered a pass to Bre Oettle, who found Canada at the top of the six-yard box.  While Canada was running right, she shot left, placing the winner in off the post for her first goal of the season and 11th of her career.

Linsey Trapino gave SCSU (2-3-2, 1-2-1) a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, but Julliet Lopez scored her third goal in the last four matches in the 15th minute to even the game for the Jimmies.

SCSU had 23 shots to the Jimmies’ seven and led in shots on goal 9-4, but goalkeeper Taylor Musser earned her first win with eight saves.

Jamestown will host MSU Moorhead on Friday at 3:00 PM at Hansen Stadium.
