U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo. 7th District, wants people from across Missouri and elsewhere to visit his region. He spent last week’s break from Capitol Hill touting tourism in southwestern Missouri.
“What better place can you go where you’re able to be on the lake one day? Go watch a Branson show, go to an amusement park, go shopping, and the outdoor places,” Burlison told Missourinet. “And the people are so welcoming and warm – great food – it’s just a wonderful place for a family vacation.”
Burlison sits on the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which he said puts him in a position to aid infrastructure that in turn aids tourism.
“The highways are extremely important to this area as well as the railroads and the waterways,” he said. “So for me, I’m focused very much on trying to get as much money as possible to provide as many new lanes as possible to I-44. That is a very important artery to southwest Missouri and really to the whole state of Missouri.”
He also said he spends time working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make sure that recreational opportunities at Table Rock Lake are prioritized along with water management.
Aside from the well-known attractions in Branson and Springfield, Burlison also touts southwest Missouri’s wide collection of cave tours and lakes, including Table Rock Lake. And he urges people to visit lakes Taneycomo and Bull Shoals, especially anglers wanting to reel in walleye, rainbow trout, and other breeds of fish.
