Brayan Bello aims to bounce back in Game 1 of doubleheader

Coming off his worst outing of the season, Brayan Bello will look to bounce back in Friday’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

Bello (2-1, 4.02) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and five walks last time out against the Atlanta Braves, and he will go up against Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (1-3, 5.23). Boston will load up with right-handed hitters against the southpaw, with seven righties total including Rob Refsnyder batting cleanup and the switch-hitting Nick Sogard playing first base.

The Orioles have been among the most disappointing teams in baseball this season and enter Friday last in the AL East with a 16-32 record. Baltimore also recently fired manager Brandon Hyde, who was the AL Manager of the Year just two seasons ago.

With Thursday’s originally scheduled game postponed due to heavy rain, the Red Sox will play a doubleheader on Friday with Game 1 scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m. and the originally scheduled night game on as planned at 7:10 p.m.
