Bikers ride for fallen service members in Run for the Wall

HURRICANE, WV (WOWK) – Hundreds of bikers are stopping in the Mountain State as they make their way to our nation’s capital to honor the brave men and women who never made it home from serving our country.

These bikers, some of whom are veterans themselves, are riding their motorcycles for those who can’t ahead of this year’s Memorial Day as part of the annual “Run for the Wall” event. The group stopped in Hurricane at the Hurricane City Park Wednesday night, where they were greeted by onlookers from the community.

The annual ride honors those who have died defending our nation. Some of the riders have traveled all the way from California on their journey to Washington, D.C., and they pick up more riders along the route. Each year, the group rotates between stopping in Nitro and Hurricane while in West Virginia.

“After eight days on the road already this year, it builds up inside of you. And there was a lady out there that when we were coming in, goes, ‘Thank you, our heroes.’ And you know, I don’t feel like I’m anybody’s hero, but just to see the outpouring of support; if we can help just one person on this ride get across and get the healing that they need, that’s why we do it,” said Todd Taylor, WV State coordinator for Run for the Wall.

The group will be stopping by the West Virginia State Capitol on Wednesday before continuing on to the nation’s capital.
