Families can dive into summer fun this Sunday, June 8, as the Big Dawg’s Mentoring Program hosts a community event at the John Cain Aquatic Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for youth ages 17 and under and $5 for adults 18 and older.

Kylia Neasley, Communications Director for the mentoring program, said that participating youths and families can connect with the community by becoming involved in bi-monthly activities.

“The Big Dawg’s Mentoring Program is a program that tries to offer the inner-city youth alternatives throughout the summer and year to make sure they have something to do and to keep them out of trouble,” Neasley said. “It is mentors trying to help them and guide them through their emotions.”

The aquatic center event is one of many planned for the summer and beyond.

“We will have something every second and fourth Sunday of the month,” Neasley said. “We will host different activities for the youth. We ask you to come out and celebrate.”

The mentorship program will offer refreshments to participants.

“Come with your swimsuit in hand and ready to have a good time. Food and snacks will be available free of charge,” Neasley said.

Donations are accepted. Neasley said that adults wanting to make an impact can sign up to become a mentor.
