Battle Ground man killed after crashing into utility pole on State Road 16

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — A man was killed after a motorcycle crashed into a utility pole on a major highway, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the crash happened at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday on State Road 16 east of County Road 525 West.

A preliminary investigation by Detective Jonathan Ousley determined that the motorcyclist, later identified as David Ferringer, 72, of Battle Ground, was driving west on a 2026 Harley-Davidson on State Road 16 when he veered off the south side of the road. Investigators believe Ferringer continued to drive off the roadway until it hit a utility pole, which ejected him off the seat.

Before public safety personnel arrived, Good Samaritans stopped and tried save Ferringer’s life. Ultimately, he died from his injuries sustained from the crash.

Authorities also noted that Ferringer was not wearing a helmet, and an underlying medical condition may have contibruted to the crash.

The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information to call 574-753-7800.
