Baton Rouge police said investigators have strong evidence they have located the body of 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather in the landfill.

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, police announced they believe Minnieweather’s body is buried in the East Baton Rouge Landfill located in Zachary but can not reach it yet because of the size of the landfill and volume of trash.

Police Chief TJ Morse said that they have strong evidence that Minnieweather was picked up on a garbage collection route and dropped in the landfill.

The police have asked the FBI to bring in their imaging technology to narrow down the approximate location to search.

Maurice Parms allegedly beat Minnieweather to death during an altercation and then went to great lengths to hide the evidence, according to police documents.

Parms, 51, was arrested June 20 on a count of first-degree murder in connection with Minnieweather’s disappearance.

Based on their investigation, detectives believe Minnieweather was caught in a confrontation with Parms, where he was killed in the struggle, according to a warrant for Parms’ arrest. It is believed that Parms stashed the body, that he threw away evidence, came back to retrieve the evidence and possibly the victim’s body and transported them elsewhere in his truck.

As police were investigating Minnieweather’s disappearance, they came into contact with his 16-year-old friend. Police found messages between the girl and Parms that were inappropriate in nature.

Parms was arrested on June 10 for counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of a minor but released on bond shortly after.

In talking to police, Parms admitted he had been at the residence on Bradley Street on June 4. Parms said he met Minnieweather only briefly and left soon after the encounter. However, police said security footage contradicted Parms’ account and showed Parms riding from the scene of the crime on a bicycle that is similar to one used by Minnieweather.
