A Baton Rouge man was arrested on Friday after allegedly shooting a man and a woman during a traffic altercation, while four children were in their car.

Jonathan Williams, 44, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, along with aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of a weapon. He is being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. 

According to Baton Rouge Police, at about 7:19 p.m. on June 24, the victims were stopped at the intersection of Scenic Highway and North Street talking to someone when Williams approached their vehicle from behind, while repeatedly honking.

The woman said a verbal altercation occurred, during which Williams exited the car with a handgun and began firing multiple rounds at the male victim. Afterward, he turned the gun on her and continued firing, police said.

The woman tried to retreat to her vehicle where her four children were sitting; however, she fell to the ground after being struck once in the back of the head. The man sustained about five gunshot wounds.
