Isaiah Magdaleno recovered from yielding a first inning home run to pitch a gem, and Gabe Wright highlighted a six-run second inning with a two-run triple as the University of Hawaii baseball team beat Long Beach State 11-1 in the Rainbow Warriors’ first road game of the season.
Today’s victory at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif., was also the Rainbows’ first Big West win of the season after absorbing a three-game sweep last week against Cal Poly. Hawaii is 10-7 overall. The Dirtbags fell to 0-4 in conference and 4-13.
Jake Evans, the second batter to face Magdaleno, hit a solo homer to give LBSU a 1-0 lead.
The ‘Bows fired back immediately, after Long Beach starter Jake Fields issued walks to the first three Hawaii batters in the second inning, in which the ‘Bows sent 11 batters to the plate.
Wright’s triple, Ben Zeigler-Namoa’s double that plated him, and Kamana Nahaku’s RBI single were the only hits in the second, as UH took advantage of four walks and a hit batsman in the inning by Dirtbags pitchers.
Tate Shimao’s three-run double fueled a five-run UH seventh inning.
