Bar Nunn Mayor Peter Boyer to run for House District 58 seat

BAR NUNN, Wyo. — Bar Nunn Mayor Peter Boyer recently announced that he will be throwing his name into the race for the House District 58 seat currently held by Rep. Bill Allemand.

Boyer, who made his career in the oil and gas industry hauling crude oil, has lived in the Bar Nunn community for roughly nine years. He’s spent four of those years involved with the town government, and three as its mayor.

Boyer said he considered getting involved with local politics for a while, and finally decided to do so at the encouragement of former Councilmember Steve Clark.

“I wanted to be involved and help be part of the solution,” Boyer said. “I wanted to be involved with making our community better.”

Looking back on his tenure with Bar Nunn’s government, Boyer said the appointments of Fire Chief Sonnie Zahara and Utilities Director Dustin Smart are two moves he’s especially proud of.

“I don’t want to toot my own horn for hiring them, but those two have done such a good job getting the fire department back up and getting the maintenance department back where it needs to be,” the mayor said.

He also pointed to the formation of the Bar Nunn Police Department in August 2025 as a positive step forward for the town under his direction. Boyer said the effort to create a police force had been a council goal for years, and he added that he’s confident in Chief Steve Sheridan to lead the department.

“I don’t think a lot of people know that there actually is a fair amount of crime in Bar Nunn. We’ve had big drug busts, an attempted kidnapping; so I’m not saying the Sheriff’s Office does a bad job out here, but just that it’s time for us to get a police force,” he said.

Boyer said he decided to run for the Wyoming House of Representatives due to what he sees as poor representation for House District 58. The local elected official said the district needs “someone who will bring honor and integrity back to that seat.”

Boyer also criticized Allemand for his handling of California-based nuclear energy company Radiant’s 2025 efforts to get approval for a microreactor factory near Bar Nunn. Boyer said the representative was instrumental in turning public opinion against the proposed project and in blocking legislative changes that would have allowed Radiant to store spent fuel on site.

“I think he’s done some good things, but [Allemand] really fumbled the Radiant situation,” he said. “Radiant would’ve been huge for Bar Nunn. It could’ve been a moment for local community leaders and him as a representative working together to bring prosperity, and he wouldn’t do it. … I hang that falling through squarely around his neck.”

If elected, Boyer said one of his top priorities would be efforts to revitalize Wyoming’s economy.

Boyer said improving the statewide economy starts at the educational level, and he suggested bolstering the career and technical education programs throughout the state. He also proposed deregulation and tax cuts as other methods of energizing Wyoming’s economy.

“We have an aging demographic, and as people move out of the workforce they’re taking their knowledge and experience with them,” he said. “Because of that, we need to be constantly revitalizing our economy with young people.”

In addition to his plans to improve the state’s economy, Boyer said his platform is in line with conservative ideals, including a pro-life stance on abortion, a belief in small government and a strong support for the Second Amendment.
