Bail for second Las Vegas private school student accused in sex assault set at $30,000 | Courts

Bail for a Summerlin private school student accused of felony child abuse and child pornography possession in connection with an alleged overseas sex assault was set at $30,000 on Saturday, though the teenager remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center as of Saturday evening.

Dominic Kim, who turned 15 in January, according to court records, faces charges that stem from an alleged sexual assault that happened in Costa Rica during a school trip. A judge ruled Thursday that he should be tried as an adult.

Kim posted a cash bond, court records show. As part of the conditions of his bail, he is not allowed to have a call phone, he’s restricted from using the internet except for scholastic purposes, he must attend home school only, and can’t travel out of state, records show. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.

Another teen suspect, Vaughn Griffith, 15, was also certified as an adult and faces a count of possession of child sexual abuse material.

Kim, a student at the Alexander Dawson School at the time of the alleged 2025 crimes, is accused of showing video of the alleged assault to other children while attending an event at The Meadows School.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson has said local prosecutors do not have jurisdiction to prosecute the assault itself because it happened in Costa Rica.

Two other students in the case are not facing charges because of the jurisdictional problems, Wolfson said previously.

Adult certification exposes a child to the possibility of harsher consequences and a lasting criminal record.

A civil suit filed by the family of the sexual assault victim, who the Las Vegas Review-Journal has not identified, said Kim threatened to kill the Meadows students to whom he showed the video if they disclosed it. The Review-Journal generally does not identify sexual assault victims.
