Art on the River returns to Casper with local talent, live music

CASPER, Wyo. — Arts and crafts enthusiasts are invited to the annual Art on the River event happening Friday and Saturday at the Tate Pumphouse. Put on by Art on the Go, this free event is said to be a celebration of creativity, community and local talent.

From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, attendees are invited to kick off the show with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments as they mingle with local artists and hear the stories behind their work. The evening will feature live music by PJ as well to set the tone for a creative evening.

The event continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and guests are welcome to explore the various types of artwork created throughout the winter months by artists from around the region.

“Art on the River features 17 of our Art on the Go Members that have opted into displaying some of their work,” said Art on the Go treasurer and content creator Laura Freeman. “So we have everything from jewelry to watercolor paintings to pastel and oil paintings and more. We’ve got some really good pieces that will be displayed there.”

Freeman said Art on the River is a pop-up event that whets the proverbial appetites of art enthusiasts, preparing them for their annual Art in the Park event that happens every summer.

“We put together our large event in the summer, and that’s Art in the Park,” she said. “We have about 70 vendors there. They come from Sheridan and Buffalo; we’ve even had some come from Colorado to set up and be a vendor at these events. It’s primarily art focused, but we do have a number of handmade artists who sell candles or jewelry and different things like that. We focus on handmade stuff.”

“It means so much and just makes my heart full and my cup full that there is so much support for our local artists and for our community and for our small businesses,” she added. “Because that’s the heart of Casper, Wyoming. I just absolutely love it. I beam every time we have an event, and we have such a great turnout. We’re really excited for Art on the River.”

Skull Tree Brewing will be on site both days, serving craft beers and sodas. There will be live music throughout the event as well.

“Come meet the artists and be inspired,” Freeman said.
