Hurricane forecasters continue to track a disturbance in the western Atlantic that is expected to form into an area of low pressure over the next day or two.
As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center gave the system a low 30% chance of forming into a tropical depression or storm within the next week and only a 10% chance of forming in the next two days.
There is no threat to Louisiana.
The area of low pressure is expected to form along a weakening frontal boundary a few hundred miles south of Bermuda. The system could develop subtropical characteristics late this week, but chances of further development are expected to decrease by the weekend after the system heads east and encounters a less favorable environment, NHC forecaster Philippe Papin said.
The disturbance is being monitored late into the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. The season has been historically quiet due to weather conditions brought on by the return of El Niño.
