While the cause of the fire has not been determined, IFFD received unconfirmed reports that a lightning strike caused it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by a Bureau of Land Management fire investigator.

The release states that IFFD was the first to respond to the fire and was assisted by Bonneville County Fire District No. 1, Idaho Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and Henry’s Creek Rural Fire Association.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office was on scene assisting with scene control.

In total, four brush units, three water tenders, two Type 1 structure engines, two Single Engine Air Tanker aircraft, two fire engines, and a helicopter were used to contain the fire.

“The Idaho Falls Fire Department reminds residents that wildfire conditions can change rapidly, especially during hot, dry and windy weather,” the release states, “If you observe smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911 and avoid entering active fire areas so emergency responders can safely access the scene.”
