Bowling Green — Alton Buren Rone, 88, of Bowling Green, Ky., went to be with his Lord and Saviour July 8, 2026, surrounded at home by his loving family.
He was born in Riverside, Ky., July 19, 1937, to the late Byron Marconi and Vessie Elkin Rone. Alton was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Norene Rone; his sister and brother-in-law, Marvene and Charles Davis; and his brother-in-law Larry Lawrence.
Alton lived in Warren County his entire life and was a 1955 graduate of Richardsville High School, where he played basketball. He joined the National Guard and was a Korean War Era veteran. He worked 40 years at Holley Carburetor until his retirement in 1999. On June 17, 1976, Alton married his devoted wife of over 50 years, Linda Paul Rone.
Alton and Linda have been active members of Living Hope Baptist Church in Bowling Green for many years. They especially treasured serving together on the welcoming and greeting ministry. Since retirement, Alton has adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved taking them camping to Holiday World and beautiful Kentucky state parks.
Alton also enjoyed golfing and was a lifelong Western Kentucky University fan, attending men’s basketball games several years with his sister, Janell Lawrence. Alton looked forward to walking every morning in the parks of Warren County with his wife and Janell, followed by a scrumptious breakfast at their favorite dining destination, Teresa’s. When he was younger, he delighted in dirt bike riding with family and friends in Riverside on his childhood farm.
He will always be remembered as a loving, kind person who enjoyed storytelling with friends and family and living life to the fullest.
He is survived by his wife Linda Rone and their cherished dog, Bo, who was “daddy’s boy;” his beloved children, Lori De Leo (Dan), Lisa Shacklette (Michael) and Bill Pearson; grandchildren, Brett Bohls, Ty Bohls, Amber Onkst (Noah) and Brittney Francke (Noah); great grandchildren, Lexi, Liam, Logan, Lorelei, Lincoln, Emma and Lennon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 12, and 9-11 a.m. Monday, July 13, until the service begins at 11 a.m. The visitation and funeral service will be held at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with burial in the Bowling Green Gardens. The family would like to thank the nurses with Hosparus Health Barren River for their outstanding care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Missions Ministry at Living Hope Baptist Church.
