ALLEN PARK — Aidan Hutchinson is sticking around home for the long haul.
The Detroit Lions have signed the star pass rusher and former University of Michigan standout to a four-year extension, per Hutchinson’s agency. Financial details of the deal have not been announced, but the extension has been confirmed by Hutchinson’s agent, Mike McCartney.
Hutchinson was a standout player at Divine Child High School than 10 miles away from the Lions’ training facility. He then played his college ball less than an hour away in Ann Arbor. Despite not moving far, Hutchinson has made a major name for himself.
It’s the deal that always felt like it was coming sooner than later. Top edge rushers from around the league kept landing big-time deals, and the tab on keeping Hutchinson around just kept on growing.
Hutchinson has been a home-run addition to the Lions since getting picked No. 2 out of Michigan back in 2022. He has also re-cemented his status as one of the NFL’s premiere pass rushers after returning from last year’s season-ending leg injury.
Hutchinson went down last season as one of the favorites in the mix for defensive player of the year honors. He’s wasted no time putting his name back into the running among the game’s best defenders despite a lengthy and grueling rehabilitation.
Through his first seven games back, Hutchinson has done everything in his power to erase any lingering doubts. He leads the NFL with 48 pressures despite seeing a constant barrage of double teams and chip blocks. Hutchinson is on a tear right now, too, posting a sack in five of the last six games, with a forced or recovered fumble in five straight games.
