97-year-old woman breaks her own record, becoming world’s oldest female wing walker

A 97-year-old woman from England has set a Guinness World Record — breaking her own record as the world’s oldest female wing walker.

Betty Bromage completed her sixth wing walk on Aug. 4, PEOPLE reported.

Wing walking is the act of standing or sitting on the wings of an airplane while it’s in flight. On Tuesday, she was strapped to the top of the plane, and it was flown upside down, according to the BBC.

Bromage said that many years ago, she saw an image of someone wing walking in a chocolate bar advertisement and was intrigued.

“Personally, the thought of lying in a bed and not doing anything terrifies me,” Bromage told the Press Association in an interview. “And sometimes, I feel, ‘Oh, I don’t want to walk today,’ but pull yourself together, get on with it. And off you go again. Start again.”

She did her first flight when she was 87, according to reports.

Despite having a stroke last year, Bromage said she was determined to wing walk again.

“As long as I’m alive, I’ve got to do things,” Bromage said.

For her latest walk, she raised money for Cheltenham General Hospital, where she was cared for after her stroke last year, according to reports.
