A seven-year-old girl died Wednesday after being found unresponsive in a home where there had been a fight between a man and a woman, the Addis Police Department said.

Officers responded to a 911 call about the girl, from a home in the 8000 block of La. 1 south in West Baton Rouge Parish, shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The police officers initiated life-saving efforts for the girl before she was transported to the hospital. She died later that evening, Addis Police said in an online post.

A woman was also taken to the hospital with injuries she received in a physical altercation with a man, who was identified to police by witnesses.

“Detectives continue working with the appropriate investigative agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and any potential criminal charges,” the police department said.
