3 men die from likely carbon monoxide poisoning in West Valley City; driver arrested, police say

WEST VALLEY CITY — Three men died Friday from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, and the man who allegedly left them in a running vehicle was arrested for investigation of manslaughter, police said.

About 2 p.m., police were called to the area of 2730 S. High Park Way, where the men were left inside of a van they were being transported in from assisted living facilities, West Valley City spokesperson Sam Johnson said.

Police said the driver is an employee of a service that provides transportation for disabled adults.

The men who died were identified late Friday as 25-year-old Colton Moser; 22-year-old Mosa’ati Moa; and 39-year-old Tim Jones. They were all residents at different group homes in West Valley City.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old Isaiah Pulu. He was booked into jail for investigation of manslaughter and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult, police said Friday night.

Johnson said Pulu stopped at home around lunchtime and parked the van inside a garage, where it was left running for several hours.

“The employee reports returning to the vehicle one to two hours later, at which time he found all three men in the vehicle deceased,” Johnson told reporters during a briefing Friday evening.
