2026 District 11 boys basketball tournament preview

In high school sports, like everywhere else in life, people tend to remember what you’ve done last.

It’s true of scholastic boys’ basketball, where league tournaments are followed immediately by district playoffs.

So, while Northampton and Northwestern Lehigh are feeling good after repeating as Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Colonial League champions, respectively, and they’ll all have memories of their celebrations, the basketball world has already moved on to districts in anticipation of the next big thing.

On Sunday, District 11 released the brackets for all six classifications with the sites and times for the first weekend of games.

Sites and times for the later rounds are based on who wins in the first weekend.

This year, 40 teams qualified for districts with the hope of not only winning championships but also securing one of 24 state tournament berths. The 40 teams include three squads from District 4 that are participating in what amounts to a subregional in 5A.

In 6A, four teams will move on to the PIAA playoffs, and three advance in 4A, 3A and 1A. In 5A, just two move on, and in 2A, only the champion goes on to the next level.

The defending district champs are Parkland, Pottsville, Allentown Central Catholic, Catasauqua, Marian Catholic, and Bethlehem Christian. All are back in this year’s tournament.

The boys tournament will begin with a pigtail-round game Tuesday night featuring Stroudsburg at Pocono Mountain East.

On Friday night, there will be doubleheaders at Allen, Lehighton and Blue Mountain.

On Saturday afternoon, Executive is hosting a doubleheader involving 3A teams, and at Easton, there will be a 6A tripleheader that will include the newly crowned EPC champ Northampton.

Because there are only seven teams in the 4A field, Colonial League champ Northwestern gets a first-round bye and won’t be in action until Feb. 24, when it will play either Bethlehem Catholic or North Schuylkill.

Of special note, Parkland is going for its fifth straight title in 6A, and Allentown Central Catholic is trying to win its fourth straight in 4A and 24th D11 gold overall. The Vikings have qualified for the district tournament every year since 2010. Parkland has made it every year since 2012.

Executive Education was not allowed to participate in last year’s tournament due to a rules infraction, but when the Raptors have been in the tournament, they have never lost, going 6-for-6 in title games and winning all 14 of their tournament games.

The championship games in 5A, 4A and 1A will be played Feb. 27, and the title games in 6A, 3A and 2A will be held Feb. 28.

After districts wrap up, advancing teams will have a week between games before beginning PIAA play on the weekend of March 5-6.
