CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Mystic Aquarium said two gray seals were released on Blue Shutters Beach on Tuesday after weeks of rehabilitation.
According to Mystic Aquarium, seals Victor and Zuma were rescued from Block Island after being found with “severe wounds to their hind flippers” in August.
The aquarium said both seals underwent successful partial digit amputations on their hind flippers and completed two months of rehab.
Mystic Aquarium said there has been a “sharp rise in entanglements” in New England, citing 30 seals rescued by the Animal Rescue Program since the start of 2025.
