CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people have been charged in a deadly crash that closed a section of Interstate 40 in Johnston County Thursday afternoon, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.
According to North Carolina Department of Transportation, the crash happened on the eastbound side just after 4 p.m. near Veterans Parkway and mile marker 311 in Clayton.

Troopers said the crash was between three cars: a blue Mini Cooper, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a red Ford F-150.
All three vehicles were traveling in the eastbound lane of I-40 when the Mini Cooper reduced its speed and F-150 collided with it, then swerved off the road onto the shoulder, according to the NCSHP.
After the F-150 left the roadway, the Jeep crashed into the Mini Cooper from behind immediately afterwards, with the Mini Cooper and Jeep coming to a stop in the road, troopers said.
According to the NCSHP, the driver of the Mini Cooper, Cheryl Elaine Boesel of Hope Mills, died as a result of the crash.
Troopers said they charged the driver of the F-150, Scott Faircloth of Dunn, with failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The driver of the Jeep, Miriam Biviano of Raleigh, was also charged with failure to reduce speed and no operator’s license, according to the NCSHP.
According to the NCDOT live traffic map, the roadway is back open.
