14 high school students make up 2025 Homecoming Court: Orange Schools news roundup

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Eight Orange High School seniors are vying for the honors of Homecoming Queen and King this year.

They are part of the recently announced 2025 OHS Homecoming Court.

Candidates for Homecoming Queen are seniors Alena Ashby, Taryn Michener, Courtney Norton and Dora Russo.

The Homecoming King candidates are Branaghan Blasier, Anderson Morrisey, Noah Rice and Mihan Stepanyan.

Rounding out the court are freshman attendants Andie Anton and Braxton Robinson, sophomore attendants Madison Hopkins and John Schmidt and junior attendants are Alex Carlisle-Winston and Sarah Gent.

The Homecoming Royalty will be crowned Oct. 17 at halftime of the Lions’ varsity football game against Lutheran West.

The Orange Alumni Association will host a casual meet and greet before the game in the OHS Commons beginning at 5:30 p.m. All alumni and Alumni Association Hall of Fame inductees are welcome.

The Homecoming Dance will be Oct. 18 at the high school. The dance will include a DJ, arcade games, snacks, a photo booth and decorations.

A sweet stroll through ‘Candyland’

The Orange Elementary and Middle School PTA kicked off its annual Walkathon fundraiser Oct. 6.

The theme for this year’s event is “Candyland.”

Students from Moreland Hills Elementary School and Brady Middle School will collect monetary donations through the Walkathon on Oct. 17 to support the PTA’s primary fundraiser.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Orange PTA. All money collected directly benefits the school community.

Visitors from Denmark

Students and staff from Herning Gymnasium, a high school in Denmark, visited Orange High School recently as part of OHS’s 12th annual Denmark International Education program.

Guests arrived Oct. 3 and enjoyed a weekend getting to know the area and their American host families, according to a news release from the Orange City School District.

On Oct. 6, the Danes and their host students paraded through the school halls led by the OHS Lionettes, Drum Line and cheerleaders. They were then treated to performances by the OHS choir and orchestra, including renditions of the Orange Alma Mater, “The Star-Spangled Banner” and the national anthem of Denmark.

The guests then shared presentations about Denmark, its culture and its people.

During the week, the exchange students studied in American Sign Language and other OHS classes, enjoyed field trips to Amish Country, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the West Side Market, b.a. Sweetie Candy Co. and the Cleveland Museum of Art and participated in programs throughout Northeast Ohio before heading to Washington, D.C., Friday (Oct. 10).

OHS students will visit their new friends in Denmark in the spring.

Preschool screenings set for Oct. 24

Orange Inclusive Preschool will hold a screening Oct. 24.

Those who would like for their child to be a typical peer, are interested in knowing more about their child’s development or have concerns regarding their child’s development are asked to consider this screening.

Screenings are for children ages 3-5. They must be residents of the Orange City School District.

Each child will be assessed in the areas of cognitive, motor and language skills, as well as adaptive functioning and social/emotional behavior.
